On this day in 1965, Dick Allen of the Philadelphia Phillies hit an estimated 529-foot home run that cleared the Coke sign atop Connie Mack Stadium’s left-centerfield roof. The home run inspired the Pirates’ Willie Stargell to say, “now I know why [Phillies fans] boo Richie all the time—when he hits a home run, there’s no souvenir.”
