32 years ago today, Cincinnati Reds catcher Johnny Bench hit career home run #314 off Montreal Expos pitcher David Palmer. Upon hearing that his record for home runs by a catcher had been broken, Yogi Berra sent Bench a telegram that read “Congratulations… I always thought the record would stand until it was broken.”
