25 years ago today, Phillies third baseman Mike Schmidt passed Ted Williams and Willie McCovey on the all-time home run list. Schmidt’s 522nd homer was a fifth-inning blast off the Padres’ Ed Whitson in an 8-1 Philadelphia win.
