On February 9th 1971, Satchel Paige became the first Negro League player elected the baseball Hall of Fame. Initially, Paige’s plaque was going to be placed in a separate Negro wing, but commissioner Bowie Kuhn convinced the Hall of Fame that Paige should be enshrined with the rest of the inductees.

On January 12th 1988, Pittsburgh Pirates legend Willie Stargell was voted into the baseball Hall of Fame. During his 21-year career, Stargell batted .282 and 475 home runs, helping the Pirates capture six National League East division titles, two NL pennants and two World Series championships.
