On March 26th 1962, John Houston Stockton was born in Spokane, Washington. The ten-time All-Star holds the NBA records for career assists and steals, and was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2009.

On March 17th 1914, “Slingin’” Sammy Baugh was born in Temple, Texas. The quarterback won two NFL titles with the Washington Redskins and was a charter member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1963.

29 years ago today, Dodgers shortstop “Pee Wee” Reese was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame. The ten-time All-Star’s nickname originated in his childhood, as he was a champion marbles player (a “pee wee” is a small marble).

On this day in 1994, former New York Yankee shortstop Phil Rizzuto was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame. The five-time All-Star won seven World Series championships and the 1950 American League MVP award.

On this day in 1989, Boston Celtics legend K.C. Jones was elected to the NBA Hall of Fame. Jones won an astounding eight NBA titles in only nine seasons as a player (as well as two as a coach).

On February 9th 1971, Satchel Paige became the first Negro League player elected the baseball Hall of Fame. Initially, Paige’s plaque was going to be placed in a separate Negro wing, but commissioner Bowie Kuhn convinced the Hall of Fame that Paige should be enshrined with the rest of the inductees.

On January 12th 1988, Pittsburgh Pirates legend Willie Stargell was voted into the baseball Hall of Fame. During his 21-year career, Stargell batted .282 and 475 home runs, helping the Pirates capture six National League East division titles, two NL pennants and two World Series championships.

On January 7th 1992, New York Mets legend Tom Seaver was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame. Seaver received the highest-ever percentage of votes with 98.84%, higher than Nolan Ryan’s 98.79% and Ty Cobb’s 98.23%.
