On this day in 1991, Lakers guard Magic Johnson served up 19 assists in a 112-106 Laker win over the Dallas Mavericks, moving him ahead of Oscar Robertson to #1 on the all-time assist list with 9,898. (John Stockton would eventually pass both Magic and The Big O with a total of 15,606 career assists.)

41 years ago today, the Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Golden State Warriors by a then-NBA record 63 points, 162-99. Gail Goodrich scored 30 to pace the Lakers, who had eight players score in double figures.

On November 5th 1971, the Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Baltimore Bullets 110-106. The Lakers wouldn’t lose again until January 9th, and their 33 consecutive wins remain an NBA record. Wilt Chamberlain led L.A. to its sixth NBA title and won his only Finals MVP award.

Celebrating his 49th birthday today is A.C. Green, who played in more consecutive games than any other player in NBA and ABA history (1,192). A three-time NBA champion with the Lakers in the late ‘80s, Green played in 1,278 out of 1,281 career games, with the three he missed coming in his second season.
